Notes |
- In the 1850 US Census, Weston appears as a farmer born in Georgia, living in Clinton County, Kentucky, with a wife Elizabeth (27 years old), son John R. (16) a laborer, and son Jasper N. (7). I find it doubtful that Elizabeth bore John when she was 11, and it is odd that in John's pension records (from the National Archives) the copy of his marriage license and certificate indicate he had an alias: John R. Dicken. Was John adopted?
Elizabeth died in 1852. In the 1860 census for Clinton County, Weston has married Mary Ann (24) and they have a daughter Angeline (2) who was born in Kentucky. Also listed is Emaline Westworth (13) but it's uncertain what her relationship is. In the 1870 census, the family is in Crawford County, Missouri, Mary Ann is gone but Angeline has a sister Martha (4) born in Kentucky and a brother James (1) born in Illinois, but I don't know for sure if Mary Ann was really the mother to Martha and James because on the 1880 census it shows their mother was born in Kentucky, not Tennessee as indicated for Mary Ann on the 1860 census. Confusing, eh? Keeping with Weston's pattern, in the 1870 census in Crawford County, Weston has yet another wife, Myranda (32) who was born in Missouri. Angeline has probably moved out of the family, but Martha and James were still with Weston.
The 1890 census records are missing and by the 1900 census Weston would have been about 90. It's not yet clear when or where he died, however, I found an interesting cemetery record in Crawford County. In the Lick Creek Cemetery just east of Cuba is a Mary A. Page, born 11 May 1837 and died on 10 March 1870. Could this be the aforementioned Mary Ann? The birthdate on the stone and her 1860 census age are very close. The 1870 census was taken in June, so that would explain her missing. More interesting is the next entry for a W.P. Page that died on 29 June 1881. Unfortunately, the transcription says he was 78 years old, which doesn't fit with Weston's ages on the four censuses I've found him on. I then found 2 additional sources that record the tombstone inscription, and all of them are different! Hopefully, one of those three transcribers got it right!
It appears Weston lived his life as a farmer without being able to read or write.
Findagrave.com... Angeline Orr? Angeline Page??
Wyatt Knapp indicated Weston's parents were James Page of Orange County, Virginia who married Winnie Shiflett.

The stone shows Sarah A. Orr, d. 12 Sep 1908, 50y 9m 2d.
Updated to indicate Sarah Angeline Page Orr, born 1 Dec 1857 in Russell County, KY. When I do the math, her birthdate works out to 10 Dec 1857. I found Sarah A. Orr on both the 1880 and 1900 US Cenus as the wife of Solomon Orr in Crawford County. Both census indicate she was born in Kentucky. In 1880, it shows her father was born in Virginia, but the 1900 census shows her father was born in Georgia, the same state Weston was born in, according to his data in the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 census.
W.P. Pace. When I look at the stone, it could be interpreted as Page. The stone is broken through his age. The site indicates his age as 28, which would be way too young.
Mary A. Pace. When I look at her stone, which has several "7"s, they resemble the partial number interpreted to be a "2" on the W.P. stone. So, like USGenWeb, it looks to me like 78. The data on the Mary A. stone agrees well with our Mary Ann. Census records estimated her birth as 1836 (close to the 11 May 1837 on her stone).
This site also shows a Miranda Page, the same name as Weston's third? wife. The listing has been updated to show her as a "Baker".

- The marriage record is interesting in that it shows that both Weston and Mary Ann were born in Clinton County, Kentucky. The 1860 census record shows Mary Ann born in Tennessee, while the 1850-1880 census show Weston born in Georgia.
