MRS. CARL KASTEN CALLED FROM LIFE
SHE WAS A WELL KNOWN MEMBER OF ST. JOHN’S CHURCH
HAD BEEN A RESIDENT OF FREEPORT FOR MANY YEARS
Funeral to Be Held Sunday from St. John’s Church—Other Deaths
Mrs. Minnie Kasten, beloved wife of Carl Kasten, died at 3 o’clock this morning at the family residence on Chippewa street, after an illness of over a year. Her demise was due to disease of the liver. She was a great sufferer but bore her afflictions with true Christian fortitude. She was a devoted wife and mother and a tireless church worker.
The maiden name of the deceased was Miss Minnie Norton. She was born in Mecklinburg-Schwerin, Germany, Dec. 10, 1848, and spent her girlhood days there. She was united in marriage with Carl Kasten in 1873 and they emigrated to the United States in 1884, coming directly to Freeport and this city had been her home ever since.
She was a member of St. John’s church and the Ladies Aid society of that church.
Mrs. Kasten is survived by her husband and five children and seventeen grandchildren. The surviving children are Mrs. Fred Kneller of Silver Creek township, and Mrs. Harry Bender and Herman, Charles, and Paul Kasten, all of Freeport.
The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the family residence and at 2 o’clock from St. John’s church. Rev. Daniel Bierbaum will officiate. The funeral arrangements will be in charge of John Lehman.
